The signature artist for the 11th annual America’s Horse in Art is Don Weller.

Every year, one artist is given the honor of being selected as the America’s Horse in Art Show & Sale signature artist. When the art show and sale returns to the American Quarter Horse Hall of Fame & Museum in August 2018, the signature artist for the 11th annual America’s Horse in Art will be Don Weller of Oakley, Utah.

“We are thrilled to be able to announce Don as the 2018 America’s Horse in Art signature artist,” said Anna Morrison, American Quarter Horse Foundation chief foundation officer. “The American Quarter Horse has long been a focus of Western art. We are honored to have such a talented artist as Don representing the show and the Western lifestyle”

Weller grew up in Pullman, Washington, and started drawing horses and cowboys at an early age. He roped calves in high school and rodeoed in college while pursuing a degree in Fine Art from Washington State University. After graduation, he sold his horses and moved to Los Angeles where he spent decades doing graphic design and illustration. His art appeared in advertisements, magazines, on records and posters. He created covers for Time, Sports Illustrated and Readers Digest. He created five stamps for the United States Postal Service and posters for the Rose Bowl, National Football League and the 1984 Olympic World Games in Atlanta.

After working on a project for the National Cutting Horse Association, he found his home once again among horses and moved to Utah to pursue his love for cutting horses and Western art. His Western paintings have received many awards, including the Steel Dust Award from the American Quarter Horse Hall of Fame & Museum.

Each year, the show’s signature artist creates a piece of art that becomes the visual representation of the show for that year. Weller’s piece will be featured in print and online marketing materials and also as a print that will be available for purchase closer to the opening of the 2018 show.
